What to Expect
7455 Kalaniana'ole Highway
The Toilet Bowl is a natural pool formed by centuries of waves beating against the lava rock at Hanauma Bay. The trail to the Toilet Bowl can be treacherous and should not be attempted when the lifeguards close this area off to public access. When the Toilet Bowl is open, follow the path along the left side of Hanauma Bay.
The pool rises and falls with the tide. If conditions are right, you can sit in the pool and float up and down in a phenomenon similar to flushing a toilet.
Take H1 east bound. H1 turns into Kalanianaole. Continue on Kalanianaole Highway and Hanauma Bay will be on the right side.
The only access to this site is through Hanauma Bay Beach Park
DO NOT attempt to go to this site when the lifeguards post that the Toilet Bowl is closed
Wear tennis shoes to hike along the coast to the Toilet Bowl
Do not enter the pool when wave conditions are rough
Do not attempt to swim the channel from the Toilet Bowl to the Ocean - this is dangerous and can even be fatal
Take care around the edges of the Toilet Bowl as this area is very slippery
