The "House of Lono", This heiau was build around 1400 and was dedicated to the God Lono, one of the four Principal gods of ancient Hawaii. He ruled agriculture and harvests, weather, sports, and medicine. Located in Waimea Valley on the north shore, it is one of the largest and oldest historical sites.
This heiau was not designed for human sacrifice, however, at the beginning of the Makahiki, human and fish were offered to ensure a good harvest and fishing.

Directions:

Take H1 west bound to H2. Go North on H2 and follow signs to the North Shore. Take Kamehameha Highway and just past Waimea Bay Beach Park, turn right into Waimea Valley. Drive to the entrance of the Waimea Adventure Park and park on the far left side of the parking lot. The heiau is located on the hillside next to the overgrown botanical garden.

  • These sites are sacred to the Hawaiian people and should be treated with the utmost respect. Do not move or remove anything from these sites. Do not climb or walk on the rock walls and platforms.
