Detailed Description

The fun and enjoyment of an evening at Germaine's Luau begins long before guests sit down to feast on a delicious authentic Hawaiian meal. From the minute they step on to the chartered bus that will carry them to the ocean side luau site, it's easy to see that this is no ordinary experience.

The pleasant and entertaining bus ride from Waikiki to Oahu's sunny West shore is plenty of time for Germaine's friendly host/guides to greet guests and prepare them for the wonders of the evening ahead. Guests who board the bus as strangers, will feel like members of Germaine's Ohana, or extended family, by the time they step off. In fact, later in the evening, when the individual hosts are introduced, it's no surprise that the rousing greeting they receive is fueled largely by the people they guided on the trip.

Upon arrival at Germaine's, guests are greeted by the majestic beauty of the Pacific ocean as the translucent bottle green waves crest and break just beyond the last row of tables in the open air dining area. Guests who are especially nimble may enjoy sitting at the traditional low luau tables fronting the stage where they can enjoy their meals seated on the woven mats, just as the ancient Hawaiians did. It's the perfect place to see the show.

An impressive ceremonial event at Germaine's luau is the opening of the imu. This is the traditional rock-filled pit where the Kalua Pig is placed early in the day and gently roasted to succulent perfection. Guests gather to watch the pig being removed from the pit as the emcee explains the method and traditions of imu cooking.

One of the most important aspects of the show itself is how involved the audience becomes with selected dances and entertainment. Visitors truly feel the touch of Aloha as warm greetings, cultural lessons, and a little good-natured laughter are shared. Early on, all the women are invited up on stage for a fast and fun hula lesson. Later, several men are given equal time to master the basic steps of Tahitian dancing. Friendly camaraderie and an "all in good fun" attitude prevail as the joy and laughter of Aloha spread throughout the audience.

Germaine's Luau blends the beauty of island cultures with lots of down home "local style" Island fun. And when it comes to the Germaine's "family," the ties go beyond blood. There are also several husband/wife teams who work side by side in the Germaine's show, as well as brothers, sisters, and cousins among the staff. Some of them met and fell in love "on-the-job," along with a steady stream of beautiful Keiki (babies) constantly adding new smiles and fresh talents to Germaine's extended family.

Guests are treated to a showcase of authentic entertainment from many Pacific Island nations, including Tahiti, Fiji, Samoa and New Zealand. It provides guests with a cultural tour of the South Pacific, featuring performances ranging from fierce ceremonial war dances to fondly remembered Hawaiian love ballads and a pulse pounding Samoan Fire-knife dance that leaves the audience breathless.

In addition to covering a lot of geographical territory, the evening's entertainment covers a broad historical spectrum, as well. Traditional ancient hulas are blended seamlessly with vibrant contemporary numbers, building an entertainment extravaganza that honors culture and tradition with a touch of glamor.

As the evening wears on and the stars begin to twinkle in the moonlit sky, a sense of magic unfolds. Maybe it is magic. But maybe, it's just the strength of the Aloha spirit that exudes from all the people who work together to bring guests the consummate Luau experience at Germaine's.
