Waikiki
The Waikiki War Memorial Natatorium was intended to be a "living memorial" to the 102 servicemen from Hawaii who were killed in WWI. Built in 1927 on Waikiki Beach across from Kapiolani Park in the shadow of Diamond Head. The 20-foot-tall memorial archway is topped by four stone eagles.
The huge 100 by 40-meter tide fed saltwater pool was once the site where Buster Crabbe and Johnny Weismuller trained for the Olympics. The site has been neglected for generations but an effort to restore and revive the area is underway.
Directions:
Take Kalakaua Ave. toward the Honolulu Zoo east side of Waikiki. After Kapahulu Ave. get into the right lane and the War Memorial Natatorium will be on the right.
Useful Information:
Archway can be viewed from the front but the pool and bleacher area is closed
