Kalama Beach is situated on Kailua Bay between Lanikai and Kailua Beach Park. This entire area is renowned for having the best beaches in the United States. The ocean is usually calmer than other areas of the island due to the protective nature of the bay. But there is enough wave action to provide beginners with great surfing and bodyboarding opportunities. History reports that King Kamehameha and King Kalakaua once surfed off this beach.

Cautions:

Watch out for the Portugese Man-of-War (jellyfish) and stinging limu (seaweed) especially from June through September. Monitor ocean conditions at all times. Obey all posting and warnings.
