This wharf is now abandoned but offers a terrific view of the coast, the offshore islands of Maui and Lanai, and Mount Kamakou. This peak reaches 4,970 feet, the highest point on the island. Once the primary commerce site for the island, this natural harbor was used for centuries. However, with the population shift from Kaluaaha to Kaunakakai, the ships also moved to Kaunakakai Wharf. The small, sleepy settlement of Kamalo is on the left side of Highway 450.
Directions:
Take Highway 450 east from Kaunakakai. Just after the 10-mile marker, take the dirt road turnoff on the right and drive out to the wharf.
Useful Information:
Scenic area for viewing the coastline and the mountains
