This is Molokai's only real tourist
resort as the west coast has the only good sand beaches
on the island. The resort, opened in 1977 and covering
over 6,700 acres, , consists of a hotel and two condominiums,
a 18-hole golf course and a restaurant.

Kepuhi Beach fronts the hotel but
is not the best beach on the west side. Walk north
across the gold course to Pohaku Maulini, a small
sandy beach sheltered by a blackened cinder cone.
The water here is deep and great for snorkeling.

|
|
| |
A mile farther north is Kawakiuniu
and Kawakiuki, two more sheltered bay swimming areas.
Across the Kaiwi Channel, 26 miles away, the lights
of Honolulu can be seen twinkling at night.

Just south of the resort is a massive
basalt outcropping that juts out into the ocean known
as Kaiaka Rock. Puu o Kaiaka, an ancient heiau, was
once situated here but has since been destroyed.

|
|
| |
Today, remnants of a cable-car and
wench used to transport the Libby pineapple crop to
offshore ships, sits on the site.
