Detailed Description

Halawa Valley

Hipuapua Falls is the largest waterfall in the Halawa Valley dropping a reported 500 feet. A second waterfall, Moaula Falls, nearby is 250 feet tall. Both falls can easily be seen from a distance from Highway 450 on the road to Halawa Valley. These waterfalls are located on private property and permission must be obtained before starting the hike. It is strongly recommended that you obtain an experienced guide to lead you to the falls as the trail is not well marked and the area is very isolated. The hike is classified as strenuous, taking at least one hour. The scenery is beautiful but the trail is often muddy with multiple stream crossing before reaching your destination. Total hiking distance is approximately 4 miles.

Directions:
Take Highway 450 all the way to the end at Halawa. The waterfalls are located north above the valley, following the Halawa Stream.

Useful Information:
The falls are located on private property. Access to the falls must be obtained by contacting one of the local tour companies such as Waterfall Adventures.
Wear sturdy shoes
Be prepared to get wet as you will cross Halawa Stream several times
Bring water
Bring insect repellent
DO NOT hike if it has been raining as the area is known for flash flooding
There are many sites along Highway 450 going east toward Halawa Valley where both waterfalls can easily be viewed at a distance.
