East Molokai
Located along the beautiful Halawa Valley Drive, this large lava boulder is just sitting near the side of the road. Large rocks, such as this, were used in ancient times like a drum to announce royal events to the rest of the island. If the rock is rapped in the right spot, it resonates and the sound can travel for great distances. Directions:
Take Highway 450 east out of Kaunakakai going toward Halawa Valley. The bellstone will be located next to the road on the left side.
Useful Information:
Try rapping the rock in several different areas to elicit the resonant sound
DO NOT deface the bellstone in any way as it has historical significance
