Highway 31, Hana, Maui
The Wananalua Congregational Church was established in 1842. It was built on top of an ancient heiau (temple) by early missionaries as an act to end Paganism and begin Christianity in Hawaii. The church was first built in 1838 from volcanic rock held together with a cement of pulverized coral stone. The style was like churches in New England and the symbolism was meant to put an end to Hawaiian ways and beliefs. The interior features native koa wood. Today, there is a strong trend to preserve the Hawaiian Culture and services in the church are now held in English and Hawaiian.

Located in downtown Hana off of Highway 31.
