The Pipiwai Trail, above Seven Sacred Pools, follows the Pipiwai Stream and is one of the best hikes on Maui. It is 4 miles roundtrip, gaining 650-feet in elevation. It takes 2 1/2 - 5 hours to hike, depending on how much nature loving you do. The final destination is the fantastic Waimoku Falls. This gigantic waterfall drops 400-feet down a sheer lava rock wall into a boulder-strewn pool.

A large, rocky hill overlooks the bottom of the falls and the pool below. Recent rainfall greatly influences the size and strength of the falls. Never stand under the waterfall as there is the possibility of falling rocks or debris.

Directions:

Take Highway 31 south from Hana. The parking lot for all falls and trails is located just past Mile Marker #42 on the ocean side of the road. Follow the signs to the trailhead.

The largest waterfall on Maui The Pipiwai Trail hike is 4-miles round-trip to Waimoku Falls and follows the Pipiwai Stream. This hike usually takes 2 1/2 to 5 hours. Wear sturdy shoes. Muddy conditions probable. Use extreme caution when crossing the stream. Obey all cautions and warnings posted. Beautiful, picturesque setting Portable toilets located at trailhead. No facilities along the trail. Large, gravel parking lot just off the highway Concessions usually available on the weekends near trailhead Bring plenty of water, wear a hat, bring mosquito repellent, use sunscreen Never hike alone. Always inform others of your hiking plans and time of return Never hike these trails if it is raining. Flash flooding is possible. Monitor weather conditions at all times and be prepared to leave the area quickly in case of a flood. Do not start this hike if you cannot return before sunset. DO NOT stand under the waterfall due to possible falling rocks or debris.
