Detailed Description
Hana Highway, Maui
The Pokowai Sea Arch can be seen from the shoreline past Mile Marker #29 on the Hana Highway. The sea arch is made of lava that flowed out of the volcano and into the sea. As it quickly hardened in the cold Pacific waters, the lava formed into an arch. Sea arches can be seen along the shoreline in several places on each island - each of various sizes and heights - each a small natural wonder.
Useful Information:
Do not enter the ocean around this area as the waves are large and rough.
Directions:
Take Highway 31 past Hana and past Kaupo. Around Mile Marker #29 the sea arch can be seen from the road - pullouts located near the shoreline are the safest spots to see and photograph this site.
