Detailed Description

Highway 31, Southeast Maui

Located after the "official" end of the Hana Highway, Mokulau is a small, southeastern coastal town. This tiny, coral-walled church sits right above the dramatic seashore for which the town is named. Mokulua means "many islets" and dozens of volcanic flows jut out into the ocean at this point.

These tiny protrusion into the sea look like multiple little islets along the coast. Park near this church and walk to the coastline to watch the waves pound against these rocky outcroppings creating a sensory feast for the eyes and ears!

Directions:
Traveling south along the Hana Highway (Highway 31), the turnoff to Mokulau coast is just before Mile Marker #35 and before the town of Kaupo. Turn left onto the dirt road leading toward the ocean. The church and cemetery are located near the shoreline.

Useful Information:
Be extremely cautious along the coast - keep an eye on the waves at all times as the ocean is unpredictable
Not safe for swimming due to rocks and strong currents
The Hawaiian Monk Seal is often spotted along this coast. The seal is an endangered species and is protected by federal and state laws. DO NOT approach, touch, feed, or disturb them.
