Front Street
West Lahaina

This two-story building was originally built by King Kamehameha III as a "business venture". In actuality, the King wanted a private place where he could gamble and drink that would be away from the prying eyes of the missionaries.

In 1844 the building was leased to the State Department to serve as a center for the treatment of sick and injured seamen. The U.S. government would reimburse doctors for the care and treatment of these men.
