Located after the "official" end of the Hana Highway,
Mokulau is a small, Southeast coastal town. It's most impressive
feature is the dramatic shoreline.
Dozens of volcanic flows jut out into the ocean giving
it the effect of having multiple little islets along the
coast. The waves pound against these rocky outcroppings
creating a sensory feast for the eyes and ears! Hawaiian
Monk Seals can sometimes be seen along the beach here.
Useful Information:
Be extremely cautious along the coast - keep an eye
on the waves at all times as the ocean is unpredictable
Not safe for swimming due to rocks and strong currents
The Hawaiian Monk Seal is an endangered species - DO
NOT approach, touch, feed, or disturb them
Directions: Traveling south along the Hana Highway (Highway 31), the
turnoff to Mokulau coast is just before Mile Marker #35 and
before the town of Kaupo. Turn left onto the dirt road leading
toward the ocean. You will pass a church and cemetery. Park
along the road and walk to the shoreline.
