Hana Highway, East Maui

Another picturesque waterfall and pool on the Road to Hana is Haipuena Falls. There is a another, larger fall upstream but the hike is slippery, even on dry days, and probably not worth the risk.

Safety Tips for Hiking:
Inform a friend of your route and your expected time of return. Never hike alone or go beyond your capability. Wear sturdy shoes, a hat, and sunscreen. Always bring water, a basic first aid kit and rain gear, just in case. Do not drink stream water which contains biological impurities. STAY ON THE TRAIL.

Directions:
Located mile past Mile Marker #11 on the Road to Hana - just past Garden of Eden and before Kaumahina State Wayside Park.

Useful Information:
Short trail on the far side of the bridge leads to the lower falls and pool
Small roadside turnout parking
Upstream there is a second falls but the trail is slippery and dangerous
Do not stand under the waterfall due to possible falling rocks or debris
CAUTION: As with all fresh water streams in Hawaii, there is the chance of Leptospirosis bacteria. DO NOT drink or swallow the water and keep water out of open cuts and eyes.
