Shipwreck Beach

This long, lonely stretch of beach continues for miles along the north and east coast of Lanai.

Large amounts of debris collect along the 8 mile stretch of beach that fronts Molokai due to the trade winds and strong currents in this area.

Hawaiian monk seals and sea turtles can sometimes be seen sunning themselves along the beach. Do not approach the wildlife. They are endangered species and are protected by law.

Small coves look inviting to swimmers, but swimming is not advised due to the extremely strong currents all along this beach.

White sand, lava rocks, large boulders make for interesting hiking terrain.

The sandy road along Shipwreck Beach is only accessible by 4-wheel drive during dry weather conditions.

Kiawe brush surrounds the interior and can be found growing on the sand dunes.
