Shark's Cove

Highway 440, South Lanai

These rich, red rocks get their color from the large quantities of iron in the lava. The striking red walls are offset by the sandy white beach and dark blue ocean. Shark's Cove is located next to Shark's Bay and is separated by a low, rocky outcropping.

The cove and the bay area is very rocky and makes for poor swimming, but the area is secluded and perfect for a picnic, a hike or just sunbathing.

Both Shark's Bay and Shark's Cove are located to the left of Hulopo'e Beach and afford an excellent view of Pu'u Pehe Rock and the coastline.

Useful Information:

  • Secluded, sandy beach
  • Poor swimming
  • Strong currents and numerous rock
  • No lifeguard
  • No facilities at this bay but complete facilities located at the nearby Hulopo'e Beach
  • Great views of the coast and Pu'u Pehe Rock

  DIRECTIONS:
Take Highway 440 south from Lanai City approximately 13 miles. Follow the signs to the Hulopo'e Beach Park. Take the trail to the left of the beach to the Shark's Bay and Shark's Cove.

Beautiful views of much of the southern coast can be seen from the low seacliffs surrounding Shark's Bay and Shark's Cove.

This area is poor for swimming due to strong currents and numerous rocks.

The higher seacliff seen here is the perfect vantage point to view Pu'u Pehe Tomb.
