Kai Okahi Oka Malamalama Church

Highway 44, Central Lanai

This quaint little wooden church church was built during the Plantation Days of the late 1800's and early 1900's as a place for Hawaiian religious services. Today the church still holds Sunday services spoken in Hawaiian.

Located in front of the Lodge at Koele, the church is surrounded by stately Norfolk Pines and situated atop a beautiful, grassy hill.

Useful Information:

  • Sunday services given in Hawaiian
  • Church is usually locked during the week
  • Church buildings located next door
  • Very picturesque setting

DIRECTIONS:
Go north out of Lanai City on Highway 44. The church is located in front of and to the left of the Lodge at Koele Resort.

This tiny church seems somewhat out of place as it located on the grounds of a large, modern resort.

The church is over 100 years old and is a reminder of a very different life when Lanai City was a bustling Plantation Town..

Situated among some of the tallest Norfolk Pines on the island, the church setting makes a beautiful picture.
