Highway
44
| |
From Lanai City to Northeast Coast
One of only two highways on Lanai, this highway
is also called Keomuku Road. It travels northeast
through the lush rain forest and mountain area of
the island and then descends to the ocean at Shipwreck
Beach.
| |
This highway is only 8 miles long
but it is one of the most beautiful drives on the
island. The well-known Munro
Trail starts off this road just
a mile north of Lanai
City. Highway 44 is paved but many interesting
roads leading to the Garden
of the Gods, Shipwreck
Beach, and the Munro
Trail are not. Be sure to check on the condition
of the unpaved roads before attempting to drive on
them.

DIRECTIONS
Highway 44 leads north out of Lanai
City, past Koele Lodge, and then heads east toward
Shipwreck Beach.
| |
One of the beautiful sites along the highway.
The island of Molokai can be seen across the ocean. |
| |
The red, volcanic earth of Lanai
is easily seen where the road cuts through a hillside.
| |
Lush, green pastures are seen just past
the Lodge
at Koele where the stables are located. |
| |
As the road descends toward the ocean,
the land becomes arid and parched as portrayed by
this trees growing in a wind-swept fashion.
