Mamaki
Trail
|
 |
| |
South Lanai
This trail is located at the southern tip of Lanai
just before the ancient Kaunolu
Village. The trail traverses the scrubby
landscape here and points out the botanical wonders
of the area.

As this sign indicates, a footpath
of lava cobbles connected the village of Mamaki to
the freshwater stream the runs through the gulch beside
the Halulu
Heiau. The stream was called Pa'ao after
the chief of Tahiti who brought new gods to Hawaii
in the 13th Century.
