North Central Lanai
This area was first preserved by George Munro in
the early 1900's. Munro was a conservationist at
heart and was brought to the island to shift the
ranch holdings of the Lanai Company from sheep to
cattle.

|
| |
Later the area was established as
an official preserve to protect endemic species such
as the endangered and rare Sandalwood tree and Hawaiian
gardenia.

|

 |
| |
A self-guided trail runs through
the preserve with interpretive plaques and educational
information.

DIRECTIONS:
Take Highway 440 North out of Lanai
City. You will pass the Lodge at Koele.
A rock sign on the right side of the road points toward
the Garden
of the Gods. Turn left here on Polihua
Road between the tennis courts and the horse stables.
Past the stables the road becomes dirt. Turn right
at the next large "intersection" and continue
north-west to the site. The preserve is located before
you reach the Garden of the Gods.
