| |
This long, lonely stretch of beach continues
for miles along the north and east coast of Lanai. |
| |
Large amounts of debris collect along
the 8 mile stretch of beach that fronts Molokai due
to the trade winds and strong currents in this area.
| |
Hawaiian monk seals and sea turtles can
sometimes be seen sunning themselves along the beach.
Do not approach the wildlife. They are endangered species
and are protected by law. |
| |
Small coves look inviting to swimmers,
but swimming is not advised due to the extremely strong
currents all along this beach.
| |
White sand, lava rocks, large boulders
make for interesting hiking terrain. |
| |
The sandy road along Shipwreck Beach
is only accessible by 4-wheel drive during dry weather
conditions.
| |
Kiawe brush surrounds the interior and
can be found growing on the sand dunes. |
