Kuamo'o Road, Wailua, East Kauai
Located off the north branch of the Wailua River, this fall is not accessible by river or trail. An overlook, however, off Kuamo'o Road provides an excellent and safe viewing area. The falls flow year-round, unlike many waterfalls on the island that are dependent on heavy rains. The best viewing time for these lacy falls is mid-morning when the sun is in the proper position for photographing this picture-perfect site. The name dates back from days when shrimp swarmed the river and were seen rolling in the turbulent waters at the base of the falls.
Directions:
Take Highway 56 north from Lihu'e toward Wailua. After crossing the Wailua Bridge, turn left on Kuamo'o Road at Mile Marker #6. Follow the road approximately 1 1/2 miles to the 'Opaeka'a Falls Lookout.
Useful Information:
Not accessible by river or trail
Great view of falls from the "Opaeka'a Falls Lookout off Kuamo'o Road
