Koloa, South Kauai
This old sugar mill is a daily reminder of the past when sugar was the primary cash crop on Kauai and Koloa was the bustling center of it all. Walter McBryde, the second son of Duncan and Elizabeth, started the McBryde Sugar Co. in 1898. Today only a small amount of the original 5,000-acre plantation exists and is in production.
