Keahua Forestry Arboretum

Kuamo'o Road
Wailua, East Kauai

Located down the road from the Wailua Reservoir is the Arboretum. This peaceful site is home to monkeypod, mango, and fragrant eucalyptus trees. Picnic tables and pavilions are scattered throughout the areas. Several streams and freshwater pools that feed into the Wailua River flow nearby and provide a cool relaxing area to swim and frolic.

Numerous trails, such as the Kuilau Ridge Trail and Powerline Trail, start or pass by here, as well as the trail through the arbetorum. Several tour groups provide guided hikes or off-roading opportunities in this area. Great views of the towering Mount Waialeale (picutred below in background) can be seen from here .

Useful Information:

  • Two trails lead through the park, each trail is an easy15 minute hike
  • Other, longer hikes start here such as The Kuilau Ridge Hike and Powerline Trail
  • Freshwater streams and pools - remember, the bacteria leptospirosis may be present in fresh water
  • Picnic tables and pavilions

  DIRECTIONS:
Take Highway 56 north from Lihu'e. After crossing the Wailua River Bridge, turn left on Kuamo'o Road (Highway 580). The Keahua Forestry Arbetorum is approximately 5 miles down the road, past the Wailua Reservoir.

Children and adults enjoy the opportunity to relax and play in the cool stream water.
