This is a lovely two-tiered waterfall that is easily
seen from the highway bridge. The Kalihiwai River
then flows under the bridge and empties into the
ocean at Kalihiwai Bay.
The falls are accessible by hiking
or horseback riding along the east side of the river
or by kayaking up the river near the falls. A small
pool is at the base of the waterfall.
Useful Information:
Good viewing of waterfall from bridge that crosses
the Kalihiwai River
Another, smaller, twin unnamed waterfall is located
just before this fall on Highway 56
Trail to falls is poorly marked and may be muddy
and slippery - keep on east side of the river up
to the where another stream enters, then cross and
follow the west branch to the falls
More Useful Information:
Fresh water may contain the bacteria leptospirosis
- do not drink water or get it in cuts or mucous
membranes
Round trip hike approximately 1 mile
Great views, nice waterfall and pool
Pictured here is part of the trail that
is not maintained and goes through dense forest and
is often slippery and muddy.
DIRECTIONS:
Take Highway 56 west from Kilauea toward Princeville.
An unnamed waterfall will be at Mile Marker #25. The
Kalihiwai Falls is just past the unnamed falls and can
be seen the long bridge crossing the Kalihiwai River.
