Luau

Polynesian Cultural Center - Intriguing Cultural Presentations
Watch natives in each village demonstrate crafts and skills such as creating clothing from bark, stories through dance, baskets with leaves, and fire by rubbing sticks. During feature presentations you'll hear intriguing descriptions of cooking methods, transoceanic travel, and the preservation of traditions and history without a written language.

Highlights of the experience include:

  • A Feast Fit for a King
Anciently, the lu‘au was a lavish feast to honor royalty or foreign dignitaries. At the Ali‘i Luau, it still is. Every evening at 5:00 p.m., guests are treated to the finest authentically prepared Hawaiian cuisine in the islands—from mouthwatering Kalua Pork cooked in the underground imu oven, to a generous salad bar, chicken long rice, fresh fish, sweet potatoes, native fresh fruits, taro rolls, traditional desserts and, of course, poi. It’s an experience your heart and your palate won’t soon forget.
  • Spectacular Night Show with a Cast of Over 100
"Horizons," the largest Polynesian revue of song and dance in the world, features over 100 native performers from all corners of the Pacific. Dressed in native attire, Polynesians share their histories, traditions and spirit in the same way their ancestors did for centuries.
  • Island Demonstrations
Take part in live demonstrations for the islands of Hawai'i, Samoa, fiji, New Zealand, Marquesas, Tahiti, and Tonga.
  • Village Canoe Tours
Enjoy a restful canoe ride in between your other activities. The palm trees lining each shore of the Center's lagoon stand as shady sentinels to each of the seven Polynesian villages you'll pass on your leisurely cruise.
  • Canoe Pageant
Five thousands years of legend and lore are acted out in a rousing canoe pageant held daily on the quiet lagoon that meanders through the Center's 42 tropical acres. Nearly 50 Polynesians in traditional costumes treat you to their interpretations of Pacific history and myths in memorable fashion. Pageant begins at 2:30 PM.
  • IMAX Films
    "The Living Sea"

Featuring music by Grammy-winning artist Sting and narration by actress Meryl Streep, the 40-minute motion picture is presented on the Center's seven-story IMAX™ screen. The Academy Award-nominated film takes viewers on a deep-sea journey of discovery about currents, tides, water cycles and how the ocean waters of the world are linked by them. Audiences feel the power of the ocean as they surf thundering waves in Hawai'i, track humpback whales in the open ocean, ride in a Coast Guard rescue boat, and take a guided tour of Palau and its giant clam farms and mysterious Jellyfish Lake.
    "Dolphins"
Dolphins touch our hearts in ways perhaps we don't understand. They have much to teach us about our world, and scientists everywhere are watching and listening. Our film is a window into an incredibly complex realm where dolphins are just one citizen of a magnificent water kingdom.
