'Okika Lei
Orchid Lei
The 'Okika or Orchid Lei captures the essence of these exotic islands and is a traditional favorite for both men and women. The orchid grows on a stalk-like plant and has 2-3 inch blossoms with a noticeable center "lip" and six graceful petals. Orchids have a light scent and come in a variety of colors, the most familiar is the purple. This hardy blossom has a tropical allure and is available year round. The single strand, whole-flower 'Okika Lei is hand-sewn in circular fashion from approximately 50 blossoms.
STORAGE: Sprinkle the lei lightly with water, place in a plastic bag and refrigerate. Wilted flowers can be revived by soaking in cold water in a refrigerator for four hours. Lei life is approximately 3-4 days. DRYING TIPS: Hang the lei in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. As the flowers dry, they will shrink. Carefully slide the flowers together, cut off the excess string, and retie the lei.
