This remote and isolated area is recognized as the birthplace of King Kamehameha the Great, the "Lonely One". The high chieftess, Kekuiapoiwa, gave birth to this great leader in 1758. The King later went on to conquer and unite all the Hawaiian Islands. This historical site is not well marked and is difficult to reach. It should be protected and treated with extreme respect. From the birthsite are gorgeous views of the Pacific Ocean to the west and rolling, green hills to the east. The thick walls surrounding the site are made from thousands and thousands of carefully placed stones. Never walk on the walls, remove or wrap these rocks.
This historical site is maintained by local Hawaiians and must be treated with respect and dignity.
The rock walls are very delicate and can be unstable. Never walk on the walls or move the rocks.
To the north of this site is the Mo'okini Heaiu dating back to 482 AD,

DIRECTIONS:
Take Highway 270 north from Kawaihae. Near Mile Marker #20 turn left at the sign to Upolu Airport. Just before the airport, turn left on the unmarked dirt road for approximately 2 miles. The site is on hill to the left.
