This small beach is located in front of the Pu'ukohola
Heiau. No swimming or sunbathing is allowed out of respect
for the nearby religious site.
Many human sacrifices were offered at
the heaiu. The first was Keoua who was killed on this beach
as he and companions disembarked from their boat. His death
assured King Kamehameha the Great supremecy over all the
islands.
Offshore and underwater is a shark heiau.
The actual location is unknown. But it was here that many
human sacrifices were made to the shark god.

DIRECTIONS:
Take Highway 19 north to Highway 270. The Pu'ukohola Heiau
is located at the junction of these two highways. The beach
is situated below the Heiau.
