This mostly rocky beach is located at the southern end
of the beautiful Kealakekua
Bay. This bay is where Captain James Cook first
landed in Hawaii.
The Hiki'au Heiau is also located here.
This heiau was dedicated to the harvest god, Lono. When
Captain Cook arrived here, the Hawaiians were celebrating
the harvest god and initially thought the large ships were
islands and the sailors were gods.
It was here that the first Christian service
was held by the Cook landing party.
