The view of Kiholo
Bay is excellent from the highway overlook.
And, considering the long, hot hike to the beach, it may
be the best vantage point!
The landscape around the bay is covered
by the 1859 Mauna Loa lava flow and the small scrub grass
that dots the ground. The water is varied palate of blues
due to the mixture of salt and fresh water that flow into
the bay.
Useful Information:
Overlook has good, off-road parking
Great views of the bay and coastline
NO facilities
DIRECTIONS:
Take Highway 19 north from Kohala Resort Area. The Overlook
is located on the left side of the road at Mile Marker #82,
Wild donkeys can often be seen crossing the
highway or grazing on the grasses.
