This 20-acre waterfowl habitat is located inland from Honokohau Beach, off the trail to Kaloko Honokohau National Historical Park.

 
 
This fishpond is host to many rare and migrating birds as well as habitat for the endemic Stilt and Coot. This pond is also the only know Hawaiian breeding site of the Pied-billed Grebe.
 
 
This beautiful pond seems very out of place along the rugged coast of West Hawaii. It was incorported into the Kaloko Honokohau National Historical Park in the 1980's.

  DIRECTIONS:
Take Highway north from Kona. Turn left between Mile Markers #97 and 98. Park at the north lot of the Honokau Harbor. Take the trail north past Honokohau Beach. Turn inland to reach the pond.
 
  Lush marshland and fishpond makes a great nesting site for numerous bird species.  
 
Great site for bird-watching in their native habitat.
 
  All waterfowl are protected in this Historical Park - no hunting, trapping or filling allowed.  
 
Beautiful views of the west coast and mountains.
